Meet the Team

The Campus Grants Management Team (CGMT) was established in 2018 to provide campus faculty and researchers with pre- and post- award research administration support services. CGMT is structured in teams of professional research administrators, providing a single point of contact for our customers and backup when an administrator is out of the office, ensuring seamless portfolio coverage for our researchers. The team structure allows access to a deep knowledge base within the office, ensuring consistent, high quality service across campus. CGMT is dedicated to developing a partnership with academic departments and central administration to provide accurate and compliant portfolio management for campus researchers.

Lara is the Director of the Campus Grants Management Team and can assist you with any question you may have about the Team’s portfolio. Lara has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary. She has worked in various roles in research administration since 2006 and comes to us with an extensive background in research administration, compliance, leadership, and team building.

Alexander is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team. He graduated from the University of Georgia with B.A.’s in History and Anthropology, after which he attended Indiana University, where he received his M.P.A. in Non-Profit Management. After graduating from Indiana University, he began working at IU’s Office of Research Administration in pre- and post-award management, until moving to Durham in the summer of 2020.

Alisa is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team. She holds bachelor degrees in English and Theater from Case Western Reserve University, and a Master of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh where she studied the use of drama as a teaching and learning tool. Alisa has wide-ranging higher education administration experience as a curriculum manager, training and support specialist, and department administrator at Harvard, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and most recently the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke. She lives in Durham with her partner and their dog, Edie the Sweetie.

Alisha is the Departmental Business Manager for the Campus Grants Management Team, and sister office, the Campus Awards Management Team. Alisha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from Western Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership from Montreat College. She has worked in various roles within higher education since 2008 and began her career at Duke in 2021 as a Staff Assistant in Research Administration.

Alison is a Grants and Contracts Manager with the Campus Grants Management Team (CGMT). Alison received her Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Florida Atlantic University. She started her career as an environmental lab technician in the private sector, then was an engineering associate with the South Florida Water Management District before moving to California. In California, she gained retail experience and was a stay-at-home-mom. She earned a certificate in GIS from San Francisco State University before moving back to North Carolina after being away for 22 years. Alison joined Duke University in 2017 in the Computer Science Department and joined the CGMT in 2019. She has earned her RAA (Research Admin) & AGM (Advanced Grant Mgmt.) certificates. Alison has cradle to grave experience with a variety of sponsors, both federal and non-federal. She takes pride in her customer service skills and enjoys building and establishing relationships with her peers and PIs. Alison supports faculty and researchers in the Fuqua School of Business, Social Science Research Institute, and various faculty in Arts and Sciences.

Andrea is a Grants and Contracts Administrator. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Virginia Tech. Andrea started at Duke in April of 2020 as a research administration specialist in the Nicholas School’s business office. Before Duke, Andrea had 20 years of experience as a government contractor with DOJ, HHS and the VA in event management, business process strategy and IT project management. She is located at the coast, loves boating and college football. Andrea is supporting NSOE at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC.

Anna is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team.  She received a Bachelor in Communication from Washington State University and her Masters in Library Science degree from University of Washington.  Her career has been spent working in the grants administration space supporting grant operations teams at the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UNC-Chapel Hill.  She brings strong project management skills and experience working with many different sponsors in the pre- and post-award space.  She’s thrilled to continue her career working on the CGMT team!

Brittany is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team.  Brittany received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Mars Hill University with focuses in Integrated Marketing Communications and Entrepreneurship.  Brittany started her career with Duke in May 2006.  She brings forth a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience obtained from positions across the University, Health System and Central Offices. Brittany supports the faculty, staff and students in the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL), a United States Department of Energy Center of Excellence.

Candace is a Research Administration Specialist with the Campus Grants Management Team. She holds two Associate’s degrees and is a senior at Western Carolina University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Candace began her career at Duke in 2013 in a clinical role with the Radiology department and worked as an auditor prior to transferring from the health system to the university. She also serves on an Incident Management Team as a Logistics Section Chief for a WHO certified disaster response NGO, and deploys to communities impacted by everything from humanitarian crises to natural disasters. Candace joined the Campus Grants Management Team in March 2022 and works on Heather Tunnell’s team supporting international research.

Chastity is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team.  Chastity received her Associates of Applied Science degree in Microcomputer Information Processing from Northeast Mississippi Community College.  She began her career at NC State University in September 1994.  Chastity has many years of experience as a Contracts and Grants Specialist in Post Award Management.  Chastity joined our team in January 2020 and has a great deal of experience working with a variety of federal sponsors. Chastity received her RAA certification in January 2022.  She currently supports faculty and researchers within the Center for Child and Family Policy (CCFP), Office of Information Technology (OIT), and other campus departments.

After graduating in 2016, he joined Duke under the School of Medicine Research Administration Fellowship. Chris joined our team in 2018 and currently supports researchers in the Nicholas Institute and Duke Center for International Development.

Crystal is a Grants and Contracts Manager.  She received her formal education at Lander University and Midlands Technical College.  Crystal started at Duke in May 2022 as a Grants and Contracts Administrator.  Prior to that, Crystal had over 20 years of experience in financial and grant administration for academic & financial institutions and the low income housing sector.  She currently serves as a member of the eIRB Board at Atrium Health.  Crystal loves spending time with family.  She has a passion for research administration and traveling.

Dana is a Grants and Contracts Manager with the Campus Grants Management Team. She received both an Undergraduate and Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Eastern Michigan University. She started her career in Research Administration at the University of Michigan in 2010 and has worked with several universities and a variety of research areas and sponsors since then. Dana joined the Duke Department of Neurosurgery as a Grants and Contracts Administrator in 2019 where she also attained her RAA certification. In 2021 Dana joined the Campus Grants Management Team and she brings extensive experience if full lifecycle management of grants from feasibility through closeout for a variety of federal and foundation sponsors. Dana will support the Center for Child and Family Policy located within the Sanford School of Public Policy.

She is currently a candidate for graduation in the summer of 2023 from Averett University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Dawn worked within the Virginia State Government for 16 years as well various other management roles throughout her career. She has an excellent track record for providing exceptional customer service while assisting individuals and teams with solutions to quandaries that arise. Dawn joined CGMT in November 2022 and supports Alison’s team.

After graduating from Florida International University, she began working at University of Miami in pre- and post-award management, until moving to Duke University in the fall of 2022. She loves and lives in Oviedo, Florida with her husband and 2 sons.

Garriel started her career in higher education close to 10 years ago as a departmental administrator. She started in research administration at NC A&T in 2019 and joins Lorrie Robbin’s team. She is super excited about being a part of the CGMT team.

She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Appalachian State University with a focus on Computer Information Systems. Heather started her career in Research Administration with the Duke Global Health Institute where she did pre and post award for complex international projects. She joined the Campus Grants Management Team in January 2020 and she brings international research experience across many sponsors and award types. Heather currently supports the DevLab who work in international development and The World Food Policy Center who develop coordinated and inclusive food policies.

Jeanine began her career at Duke in 1989 and has held various positions over the years within the Medical Center. She has worked in Research Administration since 2001 with experience in pre and post award. Jeanine supports the Nicholas School of the Environment (NSOE).

Juan is a Contracts and Grants Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team. Juan graduated from UCLA in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree. After graduating, he began working at UCLA Accounts Payable in 2017 where he worked for 3 years dealing with invoice payment processing, international wire transfer payments, ad-hoc reporting, and as liaison for the UCLA and UC Merced campuses and the Office of the President (UCOP) before transferring to UCLA Psychology as a fund manager dealing primarily with post-award administration. He later transitioned to a Senior role with responsibilities in pre-award administration and has been involved in both post and pre-award every since. Juan has experience working with a variety of sponsors including NIH and NSF as well as many other non-federal agencies.

Keisha received her Master’s in Business Administration and her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Foods from Appalachian State University. Keisha started her career in Research Administration at North Carolina State University as a Pre-Award Consultant and later transitioned to a Post-Award Consultant. Keisha joined our team in August 2018 and has experience working with a variety of sponsors, including many federal, foundation and industry sponsors. Keisha supports the Law School and The DeWitt Wallace Center in the Sanford School of Public Policy.

Lorrie is Certified Research Administrator and seasoned manager in research administration. Her experience and knowledge in cradle-to-grave, life-cycle grants management has been gained at the central and department levels at research institutions including Duke, giving her a wealth of knowledge at all levels. Lorrie has experience with federal, non-federal and international sponsors and multiple funding mechanisms. She is a member of NCURA, SRAI, NCMA and other research communities where she keeps her skills and knowledge relevant. Lorrie has a passion for training and loves helping make research happen

He has an extensive finance and accounting background gained while working in corporate accounting, hospital finance and public finance and administration. Marco received his Research Administration Academy (RAA) and Advanced Grant Management (AGM) certifications prior to joining the Campus Grants Management Team in February 2022. Marco supports the Nicholas School of the Environment.

McKenzie is a Grants and Contracts Manager with the Campus Grants Management Team.  She received her Master’s in International Peace & Conflict Resolution (Concentration in Child Rights) from American University, and her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Flagler College.  Following a career change, McKenzie has spent over a decade working in the grant management sector with both domestic and international awards, with a significant focus on USAID projects. This experience also includes managing projects as a researcher in global health.  McKenzie joined the Campus Grants Management Team at the end of July 2022 and works on Heather Tunnell’s team supporting international research.

Megan is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team. She graduated with a B.B.A. in Accounting and a M.B.A. in Management from Campbell University. She is working on her B.I.S. in Public and Non-Profit Administration at UNC Pembroke. Megan was the Grants Administrator for the UNC Chapel Hill Institute of Marine Sciences, and has joined CGMT to support the Nicholas School for the Environment.

Melissa is a Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team. Melissa received her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Accounting from Xavier University of New Orleans, Louisiana. Melissa started with Duke in July 2014 as a Grants and Contracts Administrator in the Department of Pediatrics before transferring to Mathematics in March 2015. Prior to coming to Duke, Melissa worked as a grant administrator at College of Charleston and Medical University of South Carolina. She has extensive award management experience on the medical, campus, and central office levels. Melissa is a part of Lorrie Robbins’s team providing support to the Department of Mathematics and the North Carolina Leadership Forum group.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and continuing coursework in the paralegal program at Kennesaw State University. She has worked in Grants Administration at Duke since 2006. She has extensive experience in pre-award proposal development and submission and is CRA certified. Michele primarily supports Sanford School of Public Policy as well as some faculty in Arts and Sciences.

Mimi is a Senior Grants and Contracts Manager with the Campus Grants Management Team. She received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Wake Forest University and her MBA degree from Elon University. After spending her early career at LabCorp, Mimi decided to bring her talents to Duke in 2012 to broaden her research experience. She started her career in Research Administration here at Duke working as a Grants and Contracts Administrator in the Department of OBGYN where she also attained her CRA certification. In December 2018, Mimi joined the Campus Grants Management Team and she brings extensive experience working with many sponsors, especially NIH mentored career development awards and program project grants. Mimi supports the Duke University Population Research Institute (DUPRI) and the Biodemography of Aging Research Unit (BARU).

She started out at Duke with the Campus Award Management Team as a staff assistant in September 2019 before moving over to CGMT in December 2020 to her current role. Raimy has worked in higher education for 10 years. While there she provided students with academic and emotional support. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s in Family Life and Youth Development. She is thrilled to join the CGMT team.

Shelly is a Research Administration Specialist with the Campus Grants Management Team. She started at Duke in January 2019, and is happy to be part of CGMT. She has a strong background from the mortgage insurance industry with over 15 years’ experience and held several positions within the servicing and sales support teams at United Guaranty/Arch which is headquartered in Greensboro, NC. While there she provided a wide range of research, customer service, reporting and analyzing support that will help her navigate her new role and enhance her skills here at Duke. Shelly received her RAA Certification in February 2020.

Stacey is a Research Administration Specialist with the Campus Grant Management Team. She has spent a bulk of her career in Healthcare Finance roles in Maryland and North Carolina. Stacey started with Duke in 2017 and came to CGMT from Duke’s Central Recruitment Team where she provided subject matter expertise in background check processes, procurement card and financial reconciliation, as well as projectmanagement. She is excited to apply all of these previous skills with new skills as she dives into her role with the CGMT team.

Vincent is a Grants and Contracts Administrator with the Campus Grants Management Team CGMT). Vincent received his Bachelor’s in Accounting from Queens College. He was born and raised in Queens, New York and moved to North Carolina in 2018 where he joined the Molecular Genetics and Microbiology team in an administrative role. Vincent joined the Campus Grants Management Team in 2022 and he is very excited about being part of the CGMT team. In his free time he likes to go hiking with his dogs as well as work with local rescues to foster animals and help them be adopted. Vincent supports the Sanford School of Public Policy.

I am excited to be a part of CGMT as the Grants and Contracts Manger for the Duke Marine Lab team in Beaufort. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics as well as a Masters Degree in Business Administration both from High Point University. I have experience in research administration and grants management with NC Department of Environmental Quality Division of Marine Fisheries, UNC Institute of Marine Sciences and the Duke School of Medicine. I enjoy living at the coast of North Carolina, close to the Duke Marine Lab. For fun I enjoy hanging out at the beach, fishing, and riding my Harley. I am also a sound technician for some of my friends that have a local reggae band.
